Wholesome Wave inspires underserved consumers to make healthier food choices by increasing affordable access to fresh, local and regional food. Wholesome Wave began the double-up movement that encourages consumers to spend their federal nutrition benefits (SNAP, WIC, etc.) at farmers markets by matching those benefits when spent on produce. Wholesome Wave now facilitates the National Nutrition Incentive Network: a network of over 730 farmers markets, retail sites, and healthcare institutions incentivizing consumption of healthful produce across 38 states and counting. Wholesome Wave has also piloted important innovations in nutrition incentive programs, including the Fruit and Vegetable Prescription Program & retail incentives, and is now rolling out best practices to the network on these innovations. In 2014, Wholesome Wave and GW entered into a Memorandum of Understanding to recognize and facilitate a partnership that spans research and data analysis to curriculum development and service learning opportunities for students.
